rudolfsteiner.com.au began its journey seven years ago.
The seeds however, had been planted many years before.
With the birth of my first daughter I began to realise how
bombarded and over stimulated our children's senses are. I
had observed a lack of recognition for the many stages in child
development. It was this observation and a need to change
elements within my own upbringing and education that prompted a
search for alternatives to "modern education".
I wanted to understand Steiner's theories of child development
and how the thinking, feeling and willing senses unfolded. I
also wanted to savour the reality, beauty and truth in my
daughter's lives. This is what led me in 2002 to undertake
the two year Steiner Teacher Training at the Melbourne Rudolf
Steiner School in Warranwood. It was here that
my questions were answered and many of my beliefs
confirmed.
It confirmed for me how the warmth and feel of a natural
fibre toy, slightly understated, would awaken the senses, a
beautifully illustrated image in a picture book can capture a
child's imagination, and that by working consciously through
imitation ( allowing children to live into fantasy), we gently
awaken strong and independant thought.
Whether it be life on the farm, regal battles at the castle or
loving and caring for that special doll, we provide a wonderful
opportunity for children to explore the world of play. Our
